Sim Swap Fraud -MTN

last year, someone wanted to do the sim swap for my number, I phoned to mtn fraud department, I told them to lock the number no further sim swap can be done. made a security question and answer, they said no one can do the sim swap without the question and answer. hope that they didn't lie to me. :p

I think it applies to contract only

The fraud dept has activated the watchlist feature on my prepaid number, my brother done it as well

But in all honestly , sim swaps shouldn’t be allowed with just a quick ussd

How about locking the SIM with a code?

How does that with a simswap?

Or do you mean have a password to allow the simswap? That they do, but you need to phone fraud dept, and ask to be put in a watchlist

Which network in SA is actually the least terrible when it comes to SIM swap security?

Am with Vodacom. Had someone try to sim swap me while I was on a hike on a Sunday afternoon. Only found out when I got back from the hike and had 45 mins to fix this at 16:15 on a bloody Sunday.

With 20 mins to spare while I was being driven to a nearby mall, managed to get on the line with Vodacom and they confirmed a sim swap was in process. I told them to stop it and asked what I could do to stop this from happening again. They basically said they can disable swapping the sim entirely. I told them to do it. Never had a problem since.

I also have an FNB sim. From what I know you have to go in to a branch to do a sim swap.

I'm not sure to be honest, maybe that only works with a stolen phone/SIM?

Which network are they an fno for? Vodacom coverage is terrible where I work and live
They use Cellc which in turn uses MTN. You can get their prepaid sim/esim, test the network and if you are happy with it port prepaid number from another network to that FNB sim/esim, all on the app. For the number to be ported out of FNB, FNB will require you approve the port out request yourself, using the FNB app. A big downside of prepaid FNB connect for me was lack of international roaming.

My ABSA app stopped working when i did a sim swap some time back. Said it detected a sim swap and certain features disabled until calling the call center and going through a verification process.

I think Standard Bank does the same, if i remember correctly.
