Skype with Bluetooth phone?

Downloading Skype this evening and got a few questions. First off, I don't have a microphone! Am I able to comehow connect my cellphone via Bluetooth, and use that microphone/speaker?

Secondly, I'll be using it on my GPRS connection. I'm told that Skype works alright with a 56k modem, and considering my GPRS is marginally faster, I don't sese a problem. Am I right?

Lastly, as you know GPRS charges by amount of data at R2/MB. Is Skype bandwidth friendly?

Possibly but I dont know how - an alternative is using a bluetooth headset connected to your pc if you have one.

You're right but the quality might not be all that good. But give it a try and see how you go.

If you're not using it dont stay on It can however chew up some bandwidth so have a look in their FAQ section.

You can get a Genius headset for around R70. I've had hassles with my built-in sound devices on my laptop. I dunno about the phone - but as an aside I wonder if you could use a Bluetooth headset with a Bluetooth-enabled computer (laptop or desktop)?

As for cost - voice normally uses about 20kbs - up and down say 40kbs. That works out to about 47c/min at R2/MB ... not all that cheap ... but other data packages are only 60c/MB which would translate to 14c/minute ... MUCH better.

As for quality - I have used Skype over GPRS and found it perfectly OK. In fact I have had a worse connection on Diginet - depends on other factors I guess. But certainly enough bandwidth there!

hey, get a pair of headphones and use that, it works trust, not crystal clear but it will do the job for the meanwhile.
N.bonly one haedphone speaker will act as a mic, the other wont!

Yes - indeed you can. Do it all the time when I'm in hotels etc.

Sorry Sidelong can i get some clarity on that. I cant manage to get a local ping below about 1000ms on gprs and about 350ms on 3G. This kind of rules out skype on gprs and makes it pretty dodgy even on 3G, unless i am missing something.

The biggest problem with this approach is that if you're using Windows XP (SP2) with Microsoft's built in bluetooth there is no headset profile ... so it WON'T work....
