At the end of the day, nothing is lost, and what you PAID FOR is re-allocated to the next month.

Ummm no. Each month starts new, and no data is carried over. So yes, I will have lost. And I don't live in the sticks. I live in a "major centre" hence my assumption that it would take the minimum of 48 hours to deliver as per their website for major centres. And the bank thing I don't have an issue with. But to only send the email after everything is done? Why not say beforehand its 48 hours to deliver and 5 days for the debit order? So just add 1 week to the pro-rata calculation as opposed to starting the pro-rata calculation on a time they KNOW you are not even close to receiving the sim? Why is the customer expected to take the knock? Why don't they take the one or two day pro rata knock if it arrives earlier than expected??

Same story as Afrihost telling people network issues are MTN's problem, not theirs. Nope. I'm Afrihost's client, not MTN's and not the courier's. So if their business model uses unreliable services, it's their problem, not mine. Doing otherwise is dishonest. And I did report it to their support... nada. And who said anything about living in the sticks? The middle of Cape Town is the sticks?

Afriman did offer to move it over for you...

What I can do though, is have the pro-rata data moved over to April for you so you don't lose out on anything you've paid for.

Yes, it requires actually complaining, which it shouldn't. But you're not out of pocket at all...

I would have thought u'd be up in arms over no rollover. That I could understand somewhat, but not this. I guess i'm just under the assumption that there are certain inefficiencies when it comes to capped data, and I know that i'm not going to use it perfectly to the last byte every month. Even if you end up topping up, you are still going to be out every month. Over the term that you use the product, how does this pro-rata measure up?

Really, I can't see it being that big a deal for most. Are you this anal about most things?

No sir. It is not complicated.

So many things to say. You are complaining about something that Afrihost has offered to correct. No amount of automation will cover every and all possible permutations. The current system works for 99% of their clientele as they have been running this way for quite a long time and this thread is the first one where 1 person went full-out on the offensive against Afrihost over seemingly puny pro-rated amounts. You cannot adjust the pro-rated amount and activation because you expect the delivery to take 48 hours, what if it takes 24? What if it takes 96? What if the debit order fails from the bank side? What if what if?

I like the activation button idea though, but from a payment processing/gateway point of view this would complicate things beyond reason if you ask me. Unless you keep the pro-rated system as it is now, in place, but use the activation button to correct the next invoice, pro-rated. Eg. if you owe them R10 for an order within the last few days of the month, you get your sim and only activate it on the last day: The button would then give you an option to give you the exact amount available or load a ~R9 credit towards the next month and kill the ~R9 pro-rated of loaded data.

Then Afrihost need to activate later. If that's how long the debit order takes, then so be it. It's an internal system issue with Afrihost.

Sure, one can argue that debit orders take too long, but that's simply the process. It's not a greedy bank problem...

I'm guessing it's because the SIM is pre-RICA'ed and has to be switched on. I'd rather have the SIM arrive ready to go, as have all of my Afrihost SIM's.

Taking into account that I have no idea how the exact back office systems function: The SIM profile (or account connected to the SIM) on MTN's side can be suspended (capped) from my testing of the client side interface. They need to issue the account in this capped status and can then issue a topup to kick the account to life. But I just see more issues in the end if they deviate from the current working system.

Yea, personally - I think how it is now is fine. The only thing I would change, if any, is giving the option to have the sim activated in the new month as opposed to pro-rata - as this would help avoid situations like these when you have to pay pro-rata for a month which is almost finished.
