I was looking for more of a personal recommendation :)

PS - I asked google - "How easy are c2d cpu's of the Socket 479 variety, to get a hold of?" and it only had 12 results :p

It is bloody expensive if you ask me, so I would wait (personal recommendation) ;)

hehehe - did you hear they are shutting down Google Answers?
 
dont see core 2 duo coming down in price to be honest

i mean why come down in price if you are the leader?

maybe if AMD bring out another amazing chip the price will come down

but for now i reckon we stuck with high pricing

answer is to earn more cash :(
or get a credit card :)
 
@killadoob - got plenty or cards and cash - fortunately I also have enough common-sense not to pay r8k for a cpu that really doenst need upgrading right now. :)

And I also have a missus that would kill me ;)
 
Yep these are a tad too pricey. Have old Yonah core "Core Duo" T2500 2GHz and cost a good 5K, lucky I didn't buy it however seeing as the desktop boards for this CPU suck major
