My apologies if this has been posted before - send me a link & I will merge this into the existing thread(s).

After countless attempts to get my E220 working in Linux [initially Gentoo & lately Ubuntu 6.10], and continually getting the "Modem not responding" error when running wvdial, only to find that usb_storage has magically reappeared in lsmod, I have found a really basic solution that appears to be working in Ubuntu 6.10 [see screenshot]:
  1. Go to System>>Preferences>>Removable Drives and Storage
  2. Untick the checkboxes under Removable Storage [Storage tab], then click on the Close button
This seems to prevent usb_storage from being reloaded automagically after doing the
Code:
sudo rmmod usb_storage
PS: @Tazz_Tux, thanks for all your hard work :), just a small thing - Huawei is incorrectly spelt in your wvdial.conf ;).
