Was talking to a friend of a friend who is doing some contract work for sentech.

He says he was told by someone from management that the subscriber numbers have far outreached what they were planning for by this date, and is outstripping their current planed capacity.

But he says they say they are speeding up implementation of new systems to keep pace

Does this mean that each tower's bandwidth is too little or is it global? I know the towers can handle a couple thousand subscribers at a time but the bandwidth required would be quite huge.

Since they suddenly have a huge influx of R570's (at a minimum) they should have at least some cash lying around to be used to buy more bandwidth. They have had a few weeks already so that excuse doesnt really fly but at least its something half-"official".

As so many of us have been saying on the forum, I think Sentech really has to be communicative with their clients. I personally would be far happier to accept slower speeds if Sentech offically stated that their bandwith is currently been stretched too far, and what steps they were taking. it sucks that we as their clients have to rely on 3rd hand stuff - why can't Sentech just establish an official channel for their subscribers?

Currently any one Tower can handle more than our total user base atm, and that limitation is only bacause of the type of backhaul system currently used.
Brixton and Sandton for instance can handle 10000 each, Sunnyside and Durban North about also in that vacinity.
The network sytem as it stands is designed to handle over 110,000 users.
The current backhaul system will eventually be cut up into smaller segments and sold to corporate clients while being replaced with high capacity microwave links.
No, there is no problem on this side, that for sure.
The problem is where we peer into the Internet.
Granted, some Towers are carrying more traffic than others and thats one of the reasons some are noticing some downtime as backhauls get redirected to share the load, but is to the users advantage, but in no way are these towers reaching their capacity.

Ok

Dont shoot the messanger

But it sounds like Sentech was caught off guard a little

The problem is --- Dun dunna dum dun DAAAAA :--

**** SUPPORT !

Sentech have the absolute crappest customer support solution I've seen in a loooooonnnnngggg time !
We're talking bad customer support. It's worse than non-existant, it's user Unfriendly !
Trying to contact the Sentech helpdesk leaves me quivering with anger and hatred ! :)
Well, almost - it is HORRIBLE !

To be honest, Telkoms support is better even with their buggerups. Dont get me wrong I still hate Telkom and would still rather have MyWireless but we need a free month at least (which means 1 month off the contract) to make up for the total downtime.

I agree about the free month, although over the last month or so, down time has been only about 5%, but it is at the most critical time.

3 Months credit plus Sentech getting their arse into gear. It's not much use getting 3 months free and then you are able to connect for only 5 days in that 3 months :-)
