Sony Grand Wega

He he, you're right GTi, the new gadget got all my attention last night.
Picture quality is brilliant after a few tweaks like sybawoods mentioned. DVD's look great even though I'm connected through RCA's. I plan to order some decent cables today so things can only get better on that front.
DSTV is not that flash, but I knew this going in. Hope Hi-Def broadcasts will be coming soon, but on the other hand I don't watch a lot of local programming (beside sports) so I'm not that bothered.
Overall it's a great set and I'm smiling from ear to ear :D

@ThomasH it's the KF-E42A10

Grand Wega now replaced by "Bravia Rear Projection TV"

Makro is already advertising them for 13,999 from next week for a 42"

That's technology for you. No matter what you buy it'll be old by the time you unpack it.

What did you buy GTi? R9995 is not a bad price for a plasma?

In Indonesia the Bravia 3LCD projection is almost 4000 Rupiah cheaper than the Grand Wega 3LCD.
Yet in the RSA it's the opposite. Wonder why...

I bought the Sinotech 42" Plasma which has HDMI,DVI,SVIDEO,HDTV X2 inputs
The plasma was dated the 26 August 2006 so it has the lastest technology. No problem with this plasma at all. Dvd plays with HDMI input very nicely, very good picture and sound.TV not too bad.

you hanging your plasma on a wall? If not, it takes up the same space as a Wega... oh, and the Wega is HD ready...

I don't think so, depends where the plasma stands on,the plasma is only around 10cm thick.and if you put on a plasma stand you still have space for your VCR,DVD player.CD player and amp.as well as the center speaker of your surround sound system. With a Wega no place for all those goodies. With the plasma on a stand you only need to be about 15cm away from the wall, because ventilation is on top of the plasma. The plasma is also HD ready.

@R10k, I don't think your plasma is HD ready... resolution is prolly 480 lines, HD requires 720 lines.

If you use a stand for the plasma it needs to carry the weight of the screen, I guarantee that your stand + Plasma is at least 30cm deep...about the same as the grand wega...

...And since when does manufacture date indicate the technology date? A VW Chico built today is still thirty year old technology...

Yes it's 15cm back and 15cm front t-shape, like if you put it on the floor you don't see the stand only the plasma unit and it does have 720 lines and 1024 lines as well.

1024 Lines?
ok then
I think you may find that your panel resolution is only 862x480 pixels.
