What will the effect be if I setup a ADSL connection that make use of two channels (1 IP) like in dual channel ISDN.

Should speed be better?

I have an Ethernet modem and two LAN cards and have setup my connection to use two connection. Unfortunately I did not recently did speed tests, but after I have change my connection I got 77.7 and 80 kilobits per second respectively for two tests.
 
AFAIK:

ISDN has different channels so you can surf and use the voice...ADSL uses a filter to filter out voice and allow internet connection at the same time, ADSL does not have different channels. I may be wrong but I don't think its possible to split ADSL into 2 or more channels.

Even if you could you would most likely be required to pay for another ADSL line and still be subjected to the cap and port prioritisation.

On ISDN, the 2 channels can be utilised as follows:
1) 1 x voice , + 1 x Data (64k)
2) 2 x voice
3) 2 x data (thus 128k), but it is 2 separate connections which is bundled together

For ADSL, you have 1 username which can handle 4 simultanuous connection.

I have setup 2 connections (eac 1 via own LAN card). Same userbame, but bundled together.

But maybe it is a waste of time. Will monitor for a while.
 
Part two:

Phoned a buddy. He is in same exchange as I and more or less same distance from exchange.

We pressed the Test Now link on the count of 3.

He got 33.5 kilobits/sec

I got 55.8

Agree, one test does not prove anything. We will do more tests.

What OS?
Do you connect both cards and the Ethernet modem to a hub?

Running XP on machine that have Internet connection.
All my PC's are linked via 2 Hubs.
Ethernet Modem is plugged into hub as a PC would.
On Internet PC I have Two LAN cards which each is connected to Hub.
Now, my ADSL connection is not setup via the standard XP broadband connection. I use a 3rd party driver which I got from http://www.raspppoe.com , (Actually got this to overcome the ICS prob on MS Broadband connection). This driver is setup under dial-up connections. In the properties of this connection you can specify which device(s) must be used for connection. I specified BOTH LAN cards. It then establish a ADSL connection tru each LAN card, but bundle it under 1 IP address. (As ISDN would do).

So far, it do appear to be faster, but then, it could be my imagination. But, I believe this would not be possible with a USB modem.

Did I answer all? If not shout.
 
It might be duplicating packets?

As far as I know multilinking connections with ADSL is not possible since it has no MPPP protocol. Otherwide you would be able to link two ADSL modems together to get 1024 Kb/s, which you can't do.

Yip, grey area, that's why I say it could be my imagination.

Back in the good 'ol days of ADSL pilot when we were unthrottled (How I miss those) I actually had an ADSL Connection bundled with an ISDN (I have ISDN as well) and a dial up 56k. There was actually no point in such an excercise, as ADSL was so fast that ISDN and 56k could not make a (better) contribution, but I just did it to see whether it is possible.


But yes, I cannot state as a fact it is working. Will test with me buddy over the weekend again. What is scary is that I see my daily traffic went tru the roof. My connection is now 3.5 hours old and it is standing on 85M. [:0]
 
Add on.

What I will do, is do more regular speed tests and post it. (All from RPM's speed test function)

I have one application that always times out (passive ftp) so I will try it this weekend to see if it helps.

Hi,

I used to run two connections from my pc at once a few months ago when I first got ADSL. My finding was that downloads increased by about 1-2 kB/sec, but what was really interesting is that I was able to send up into the high 40's and sometime 50 kB/sec. If I remember correctly, that was via two simultaneous uploads rather than linking them and it being one fast upload. I don't think linking them helped much at all.
 
About your usage going through the roof: I used DUMeter to monitor my connection. Problem is it is monitoring the ethernet card. So whatever traffic goes through there is monitored. That means that normal net traffic between my 2 pcs was showing up as well as what I was using on the actual internet. So don't panic.
