Hey all, very new to this so have a couple of questions..
I'd like to set up my own website, just for fun and practice for now but have 0 experience. From what I have read Wordpress is a good way to go but requires hosting that supports MySQL 5 or later. Do you need a registered domain? Is there any free hosting services (as this is just trial/practice) or would I need to sign up for a hosting fee & register a domain?

Any advice welcome.. Thanks in advance

As far as I know are no free wordpress hosting services. We offer cost effective WordPress hosting solutions including free .co.za domain name - PM me fore details.

I helped a friend set up a wordpress site with http://texo.co.za/ so I know they specifically support WP - it wasn't free though.

To get started download XAMPP & Wordpress, set everything up on your local PC (there's tons of info on google how to), play around and develop your site locally before worrying about hosting online.

You could posibly get away with one of the bigger overseas free hosting sites like http://www.000webhost.com/ for learning how to deploy etc. before you jump into spending money.

ps. Dan beat me

I also found this for you .. http://sneerwell.blogspot.com/2009/10/top-9-best-free-web-hosting-for.html

this

another fun thing to do if you have adsl (or even 3g) is to make use of a dynamic dns service and port forwarding to access your site over the interwebz,

Really guys???
