Today I bought Sin Episode 1 and installed it. No problems and then..... Steam updating "your game will be ready in 2h 3min". If our internet is not sorted by end of next year I think us gamers gonna have big trouble. The game updates is just getting bigger. Lucky not all games work on the steam principle but I think its gonna be the future of PC gaming.

I really hate the Steam platform - and have as a result not purchased one game that contains it.

very tru gonna have the same problem with BF2 patches are getting bigger and still sitting with a stupid 3gig cap

I think the problem is our internet service in SA, not really Steam. The games are always up to date and the improvements I have seen in CounterStrike have been substantial. I don't think uncapped, true broadband is too far away though. We need it.

I haven't bought any games that use it and I won't be buying any.

Xbox live does the same thing except you are given a choice.

If you play offline you can say not the update (I don't know if Steam does that as well)

Most of the time it isn't a problem but I had never played Halo 2 online and now when I try it keeps on telling me I need to download something else... I don't know what it wants me to d/l.

The newer games though work much better and the patches are small.

We need better internet though, if I downloaded all the demos of Xbox Live my cap would be gone in half a day.

Steam Sucks Indeed....i came home from my holiday today and thought...hmm...lets play some CS... :)

So i open steam and i get a lovely message saying: "Steam is having trouble connecting to the steam servers"

Now I'm angry....all i wanted was some CS...:(

If anyone does have any suggestions or is experiencing the same problem today...plz let me know..

yak yak yak, steam doesn't suck. Everything in the world has consequences and you'll either have to face them or leave them

You'll have to go through the trouble to update steam once, thereafter the updates are small and you can backup the updates.

For the guy moaning cause he can't login to steam, here's your answer

There is currently a wide spread power outage in Bellevue/Seattle impacting Steam Server availability. Unfortunately ETA for when the power will be restored is unknown as the power company will only work on restoring it once the storm has eased and the high winds have died down.

Any issues you are experiencing with connecting to Steam are only temporary, as this isn't an end-user issue.

Steam is definately much better than other alternatives like starforge etc...

Limited bandwidth in SA makes it a bit of a pain though.

What I like most about it is as long as I have my steam id and password I can play my games from any computer anywhere in the world without having to carry the CDs with me.

Yeah well steam might irritate some, but its saving the PC gaming industry by forcing people to purchase original games.

Strange but I am having also problems with Steam.

Apparently there is a general powerfailure in the seattle area due to really bad weather and it can't get fixed till the winds die down. Heard reports about the wind being over 100mph but don't know if its true.

Thanks ... it makes sense now ... Valve is located in the Seattle area.

Well my Steam does. If there's no internet connection, I select OffLine mode, and I can play my games fine. But I've heard people who have a problem with this where they can't play in OffLine mode. I've never had a problem with OffLine mode.
