I would hope that this promise of great things to come will also address areas covered by copper wired ADSL - it needs it.... badly

btw... I tried to contact MWEB for some more detailed info. but eventually gave up - perhaps they have too much business.

If I could just get ADSL to stay connected with uploads only for say R500.00 all up and then the satellite download for say R300.00....
mmmm maybe this could be my solution.
I don't do gaming, but the 80GB DL potential is quite attractive.
 
Re the Satellite announcement - A bell went off in my head. For those who have seen my lengthy complaint about my unability to get ADSL at my residence, when Mr Mills was talking to me he seemed more interested in trying to get me to go with the Satellite system that has just come in. I wonder if they are now trying to discourage people from using ADSL and go with the Satellite system? He kept saying that he would get the sales people to contact me, however that hasn't happened. Perhaps they bit off more than they can chew with ADSL?
 
Good point Wendy - Hans vd Groenedal (head of Corporate at Telkom) told me about the Satelite option back in May - apparently it is in Beta testing in Pretoria so maybe they are going to bypass ADSL altogether. HOWEVER as far as i know, no other Satelite provider can come in under R1000 a month at the moment so I doubt Telkom will price their variant much beneath that. This means that ADSL is still the most financially viable solution for people who need office hours connectivity and don't really care about speed. Telkom need to realise and appreciate the value of transparency in their customer relations. As end users, we have to adapt ourselves around second rate product delivery where we should actually be driving delivery through collective demand for specific services - does that make any sense?
I am tired of having to like it or lump it.
 
2 way 128k VSat is available from Telkom under the "Cybertrade Access" brand name for about R1500. It's quick, but slower than my ADSL. However, afaik it has no cap.
