Telegram Hits 400 Million Users

Signal has no native MacOS app?

**** right off.

Oh just not on the AppStore. Still a monumental fail.

Nothing for Linux though so Telegram still wins.

Colour me impressed. It’s on the Ubuntu snap store.

Back to it being crap. Doesn’t run stand alone and needs to “link” to my device just like WhatsApp.

Please don't make me work through this crud again... shiat like this:

Fact is, Telegram is just not all that secure by default and continues to be hit-and-miss because of its roots. Be it the cruddy client or it's blend of user-friendly trade-offs which absolutely require less security....

Signal remains, by far, the most secure option out there. Telegram's security remains firmly based in the security-from-obscurity model. Something which has proven, time and again, to be as secure as a rotting banana, regardless of how clever it is.

Oh god I wanted to puke when I got to the bit about the Russians, thankfully it ended there.

Nothing in that article is especially terrible.

The URL lookup a matter of convenience and I bet every app that does that leaks it to someone somewhere to retrieve that information. They aren’t doing it maliciously, it’s a feature.
