Telemetry data download and storage (FTP and web services)

I will ignore droid on this. Whatever allows me to belt out working , decent apps in the minimal time is where I would go.

Yes, I started with machine code and assembler in 1993....am not going back to that, if I can say "loadxml (filename) " and it works, that's where I'm gonna go

Pssst. we did that in the 80s, but even then I still benefit from it, e.g. Hopper app is my favourite goto for difficult to resolve *nix bugs... & assembly is part and parcel.

I think the thing Thor has to learn is to use the best tool for the job in question.

While it would be totally awesome for me to build a Wendy house with a pocket knife and some vine rope....it will take me **** long to do, and it probably not hold together very well.

You assume wrongly that it's faster to code in JavaScript or PHP; all code has a cost, and any monkey can write thousands of lines of code -- performance, robustness and extensibility is however never a given.

PS. I never pushed him to attempt C; but I certainly would advise any JS or PHP wanting to learn another mainstream language (and yes JS doesn't count)

It generally is. And that's good enough for me, and my purpose.

Any monkey can write thousands of lines of code, and if they have started doing it a very low level, the potential for failure and bugs is a lot higher

Supported simply by logic. You assume all programmers are competent and are able to build things well from the ground up.

I put it to you that if a few of the lower levels are prebuilt, tried and tested by a large test group, that foundation is likely to be stronger

Assumptions; precluding this for your comparison.
Still not fact; but bias is clear.
