Guys what number can I phone on weekend to find out if my ports have been allocated yet??? The 0800DSL DSL which directs you to that 0800456987 or whatever it is number is only open Mon-Fri and I wanna find out if they've been allocated so I can go pickup a DIY kit?????

Btw how advanced do you think you have to be to use a DIY kit? Like really computer savy or just kno the basics? And does it involve any cutting of cables etc?

there was a number i called i cant remember it but it was the number for ADSL fault reporting. damn, sorry. but they told me they operate 24 hours, never mention 7 days a week.

Na it would be simple to install adsl. all u got to do is plug in your modem, unless you got a modem that does not hav a filter included, and your telephone socket at home is not a splitter socket.
like the filter that comes with the netgear modem (don't know if other modems have them) has a filter that comes with its own splitter so then you won't need to cut wires.
the reason for the splitter is:
socket 1.) analogue telephone
socket 2.) data line (for your pc)

so check on the socket of your telephone if it has 2 sockets or 1.
good luck!
hope i was of help! :D

Um this is prob just a really stupid question, BUT:
THe splitter, it's not the like part of the phone line of the wall where you connect the phone line to is it? SO then a splitter isn't the thing where the wall sockets contains two seperate phone jacks and it's about the size of one of those big lion match boxes.. (random I kno :P) ???

ic, the reason i mentioned the splitter was cos im assuming dovi would want to use both voice n data line at the same time.but then again you can also get a ordinary splitter which can be bought from game. the splitter itself ain't a filter, thats seperate but like the filter that comes with the netgear modems has like one input and 2 outputs. so u can use both voice and data at the same time without getting to buy another seperate two way splitter.

Dovi, the wall socket is the thing thats like the big lion match box with two outputs (2 phone jacks).
let me put it this way.

1.) you get your filter.
2.) plug it into the output of one of the phone jacks on the wall socket.
3.) plug your fone into the output of your FILTER!
4.) plug your DSL modem into the SECOND phone jack on the wall socket.
5.) enjoy :)

and if you don't want to use your DSL line for voice calls, then you wouldnt need the filter. all you do is plug ur DSL modem into your phone line.

So there will be no cutting of wires. so its really simple.
anyone can do it! even myself! :D

Ooooooooooh okay not that I hard I guess ;););) Well have to phone tomorrow morning to double check if the exchange has been enabled (and if they tell me otherwise I'll damn pissed off ) but then I'll just go pick it up at Telkom Rosebank
