Been chatting with a few ISP people today about the problems on the ADSL network. We have spoken to people who use ADSL accounts like those from resellers (normal ISP's) as well as people who use normal vanilla TelkomInternet packages as sold by them. What appears to be happening is that lower priority is put on non-TelkomInternet packages, and customers who have an account with someone other than TelkomInternet could be suffering from various problems. radius authentication also seems to have intermittent problems.

If you have TelkomInternet account - have you had problems the past week or so?

If you have a different ISP's account - have you had problems the past week or so?

Hi MaD,

I dont think this is the case... I have a TelkrapInternet account & an Imaginet account, they were both terrible these past few days...

Ye, I can hardly imagine Telkom being that inventive.

I have had problems logging in the whole day. I have a account with TelScum as well as with WebAfrica. Even though my router report that the DSL line is up I was unable to log into any of my accounts.

Very, very frustrating.

MaD, I think the conspiracy is a bit far fecthed. Ask the guys at Axxess. Look at the Telkom notifications (i'm sure someone can give you access)...

This last week has just been a series of unfortunate incidents on the Telkom network, and unfortunately, a whole load of self-authenticating ISP's got nailed because of nationwide network problems.

**** happens. I don't know why we expect Telkom to provide 100% uptime on their network, when nobody else can. Realistically Telkom can't even answer support calles within 30 minutes. In any complex system that makes use of third parties, and single points of failure there is guaranteed to be hassles when a complex problem arises.

Yes, I agree there have been problems. But problems happen on any network of any kind, and any size. I really don't think we can fault Telkom on the sorting out of large, or small network problems once they actually admit there is a problem... They've actually been doing better than any of the "commercial" IP providers in my view.

Getting hold of someone competent enough to report a problem is always an issue, but in general, I believe that Telkom's internal monitoring is way better than anyone else's. Just go look at the SAIX noticeboard. Telkom readily admit to technical problems on their network via the SAIX noticeboard.

Other ISP's seem to do the "smoke and mirrors" thing.

Could it possibly be related to the new pricing structure coming in? Maybe they are adding new bits and pieces for the new pricing structure
