Telkom ADSL Test Account

This week they promised to come and install my line, but I still need to sign up with an ISP.Is there something like a telkom adsl test account ? I was wondering whether or not the techie would wanted to test to see if my line worked ?

Must I sign up with my ISP of choice so long, before he comes to install or can I use a telkom adsl test account (if there is such a thing) to sign up with the ISP of my choice after he did the install?

PS: I still have my dial-up account :D

when they installed me they normally have their own test account, and he was required to show me on his laptop that it was working...
 
Some ISP's take less than 5 minutes to sign up with. The test account does not allow you to go to anything but a handful of front pages to sites like bbc etc if i remember correctly and of cause Telkom's site which will drive you insane. I swear you will become a pro Telkom person.

I was capped one time so I downloaded all the telkom adverts LOL :eek: :p

Luckily I have forgotten about it already however that doesn't mean I get capped the next time it won't happen that I will download the entire website :eek: .

StoneCold : Did you test the account details & is your line working?

i was playing around with the account the other day. I busy trying to what else i can access. maybe we can access some super duper files :P
 
I remember back in the days you could dial a 0800 (tollfree) number and access nothing but the ISP's own website. However later on some smarter people realised you could actually access the internet via a DNS server by manupilating the packets you send to the DNS server.

Wonder if that is still possible with these guest accounts...
 
i am sure they have fixed it now, but on the old guest account you used to beable to set www.telkom.co.za port 80 as your proxy server in IE, and surf pretty much everywhere. Obviously a mis configuration of their webserver but it didnt last long. I seem to remember the guest account used to disconnect frequently then aswell :)
