Telkom and sentech explain themselves apparently

Why am i getting less and less enthuisiastic bout the sentech offering? It was hopefully gonna pull us all away from telkom and propel us on step closer to actual world class broadband.[:(]
Telkom and sentech seem to be running hand in hand with each other happily excusing their bad service( Telkom at least)

Now that the aup has become a sticky point with regards to sentech's mywireless.
the article further states that users who r abusing the infrastructure provided to them stand out like sore thumbs and that they can upgrade a users package to a higher service, terminate his package and restrict his access to the network.

this is just another telkom coming into play. baaaah proudly south african rip off.
sentech's just gonna do the same that telkom did it seems cutting off or restricting us.
plus come on who r they kidding can our infrastructure really be that bad that were getting a fourth of the bandwidth that some developing african countries are getting.
they offer no limit internet browsing and downloading with no cap no restriction of users.
we south african are being forced to walk with begging bowls to the telecomm companies in sa hell even our cell providers are ripping us off.

New service by Telkom broadband speeds up to 5kbps for only R1k a month. heheh
 
Well I did say in a previous posting that PROASM claims that Sentech are a private company trying there best to make "My Wireless" into a good service, That's utter rubbish, they will always be a government organisation and that's they way that they will always behave.
The thing that annoys me about Telkom's statement is that they say only 20% of users are reaching there cap. I find that highly unlikely, but the worst part about it is that I purposely did not download anything this month and only browsed overseas sites. Played locally on the gaming side and I reached 3Gb on the twentieth of the month. Absolute rubbish. The limit is far to small and they must stop counting local useage towards your capping.
Lastly, if you compare the pricing stucture between My Wireless and Telkom, you will see there is very little difference, as follows.

Telkom ADSL R680.00
ISP Mweb R299.00
Nocap R 99.00

Total R1078.00 This is for an uncapped 512Kb service.

My Wireless R1449.00 For an uncapped 512Kb service.

Or, for half the service.

My Wireless R849.00 For an uncapped 256Kb service.

So where do My Wireless get off saying that they have introduced a cheaper and better service. That not competition, that's called price fixing. We are caught between a rock [Telkom] and a hard place [My Wireless]. Long live the Government Way.

Dear friends

It is fairly easy to make our feelings clear with regard to Sentech’s new wireless offerings. Simply do not use it. Stick with ADSL, which is overpriced but from a forced source anyway. If you use Sentech knowing that they are ripping you off because they are using our unfortunate position as an excuse to milk us like Telkom, then you are aiding them. I know it is difficult for those of us who live in areas where ADSL is not provided and I think it is fair that these people may be excused if they do opt for Sentech’s offering. But if you do, complain like crazy about their pricing and bad service should it prove to be faulty!

They are by far not the only company able to provide wireless data access. They just happen to be the one with the license! Stupid ICASA!

Everybody has to come to terms with the fact that telecommunications in South Africa is <b>expensive</b> - probably *double* the international average.
This forum has been up for quite some time and I haven't seen Telkom change their product line or lower the price of the ADSL service as a result of it.
 
Referring to the article linked in the initial post, this was the best part :

"White also points to the cost-effectiveness of copper infrastructure (Sentech currently only has radio-frequency equipment)."

It would seem Mr. White has been hitting the crack pipe again.
 
HAH, Mr. White is about the most ignorant individual I've ever come across... Radio and wireless is by FAR more cost-effective than copper wire, and has far lower maintenance costs. Also, you can't steal empty air, while copper is very easily (all relative) stolen, resulting in down time.

According to the goverment u can steal the air therefore the reason why you have to have a license to use the 2.5 ghz range.

This country belongs to us not the goverment we as a people are supposed to have a say in the matters that affect us. feels the same as if the gov is saying that there are only to institutions allowed to use our sea( portnet and a 30% gov owned company)and the rest of us are gonna have to pay them if we wanna go for a swim.

also gaming on my level and for thousand if not tens of thousands of people in this country is a competitive fun sport. the country provides people with places were they can practice and have fun playing their respective sports but do they do that for gamers? just look at http://www.langames.co.za and on the right hand side theres a listing of the amount of poeple that are registered as lanners. currently for a lot of people the only way is to save up and every second or fourth weeekend try an attend a lan which for people who lan know can be quite an expensive event.

maybe try to get all the counterstrike players and bf 1942 players to mount a revolution just tell em that the ministers are terrorists and they must be eliminated.

Yeah I definatally agree with most of what you have to say, except for the bit relating sports as 1000 or even 5000 might sound alot to you but if you think you have more ppl playing a game of cricket in 1 school than you have ppl playing online/lan games in south africa. Not shooting you down or anything but I would not expect the Gov to throw any money on a 'sport' like gamming which is really only played by the top elite, sorta like Polo, quite a few ppl play (don't know the numbers exactally) that and it also costs a lot of money and is only played by the rish bassically.

I Wonder does the gov acknowledge gaming as a recognised sport yet? cause if they do i wonder what the chances are that an institute can be set up to promote gaming at schools? like a rugby club but just with counter terrorists.[:D]

If you want broadband, you are! Otherwise you can continue to use dial-up... Or you can pay much more for a dish.

You're not forced to use ADSL for broadband any more than you are forced to use VSTAR or MyWireless or Diginet. You have a choice between all of these products, and a choice not to use them at all. Why stick to Telkom if they're offering a worse service than Sentech?
