thats very true but imagine if telkom dropped the price so that majority of middle to upper class family's with a computer had adsl like in uk. then skype would be very popular and telkom would loose alot of local calls i think.

i would say telkom are thinking about their bank account more than the people of this country (a common trend in south africa)

Dudes, I work at Telkom Internet online help desk. We've had VOIP internally for a helluva long time, and believe it or not TELKOM (the only telecommunications solutions company in SA) is actually comlaining about our use of it and actually is thinking about charging us for the calls we make from our VOIP phones.

Check your terms and conditions of service, that should be included in your employment contract. If these include use of the facility you currently have (even if not explicitly mentioned - an existent facility and duration of use can be interpreted as an already-implemented adjustment to such conditions), then you may have a legal case against them in the event of being charged for the service...

If you ever spot a guy with a Dell Latitude x300 and headset sitting at one of the restaurants or terminals at JHB international appearently talking to himself, it's probably me! International call nothing! I call my wife at home in EL from JHB at FAR LESS than a local call - we talk for the three or so hours I have to wait for flights, etc... Works great! Wireless>web + skype...
