When I see a Telkom ADSL ad, I see something like the following. It think about something like this:
We sell brand spanking new second hand 10 year old cars. Oh boy, you should see our cars go. The top speed is a lightning fast 30km. Yeah, we touch the future! We have the right to do all this because our beloved government only gave us the right to sell & produce cars. (Boy, oh boy, are our investors going to make money!) Nobody else is allowed to sell cars!!! (AINT WE A LUCKY BUNCH) Now we can cut a lot of corners. Instead of producing new cars like the rest of the world, we deal in old rusted up, priced biefed up, slow, pieces of junk. We know the cars we sell are the worst cars in the world but hey, the South African public are too ignorant to know the difference. They aren't used to new innovative cars. And so we go on and rake in the money!
Could you imagine what a muck-up it would cause if only one company were allowed to produce & sell cars? They could create cars with only a lawnmower engine and sell it for R100 000 and they would still sell it because the demand for cars would be so big that people won't have another choice. This is what is currently happening with ADSL.
