Telkom using data from Lit Music for YouTube

So that means Telkom can't differentiate between Google music or video traffic and hence just buying the best value package of the 2 and using it for both would work?

Or is it all going over my head?
 
It seems so... Something else that I have realised, I backup all the photos and video on my phone to Google photos, around 2.2Gb of data consumed, and it deducted off my LIT Music. So it does seem that Telkom only sees you are connecting to a Google service, irrespective of what it is you are doing.

My previous FreeMe 2Gb expired this morning, I was able to watch Youtube and it deducted from the LIT music throughout the month. This morning I bought a FreeMe 5Gb and low and behold, the youtube once again deducted of the LIT music and not the LIT video. I spoke to Telkom and apparently what happens is that Telkom can only see you are connecting to a Google streaming service (ie either Play Music or Youtube), so it deducts the stream from the LIT Music and then once that is depleted it will start deducting from the LIT video. I suppose the same will happen with Google Play movies.
This explains why I was able to stream Youtube without depleting my 2Gb purchased Freeme data and instead using data from my LIT music.

Will see what happens when the 5Gb LIT music is finished and whether it will start taking from the LIT Video.

So I went and tested this. Exhausted both my LIT Music and normal data with only LIT Video. Can't access GPM with video data. This is such bs that they can use music data for Youtube but nott the other way around.
 
So the day before payday and I've exhausted my normal data allocation for the month this morning but I saw I got update notifications from the Play Store. So lo and behold I went into Google Play Store and updated them all and checked and see it's taken data from the LIT Video which I still have.

This whole system is screwy.
 
Went to see how much the service costs, I see they list Netflix as one of their products supported
 
So i always wondered that why was i using the lit bundle when never stream any audio. then did tests and saw it worked like that.

I streamed upto 720p but then it burns data quite fast. almost month end so no use holding onto last bit of lit data.

Yes and the speed cap that caps it to 360p has also been removed it seems. You can even stream 4K on youtube and it starts consuming the LIT Music first then the LIT Video after that.
 
Noob question but to deduct from Lit bundles do you have to watch YouTube via their Lit app or directly via the YouTube app is fine.
Also do u have to set a lower resolution or is this automatic?
What if you want to watch at a higher resolution to use normal data...how do you set that?

Once you have a lit bundle your speed to YouTube will be capped to 1Mbps. Telkom can't distinguish YouTube data from playstore, google music ect so all those services will use lit music and lit video bundles.

You don't have to use lit app or box at all normal apps or website will work.

I have an uncanny feeling it’s not detected automatically.

I just went past a telkom store now and asked someone there and was told that the streaming needs to be set on the app at 360p.

Netflix just has standard or high definition in its setting so not sure about that setting.

Oh it’s all very confusing
 
@cavedog i think that was before. I seen recent times i cant use lit music to stream youtube. So not sure.
 
Not really sure. Before i could stream youtube with lit music and data would not get depleted. Recently doesn't work. So not too sure.
