Test figures: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
We put the updated Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio through its paces on our test strip to find out how it performs in the acceleration and braking stakes.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio recently took part in the 16th Simola Hillclimb, where it recorded a best time of of 48.73 seconds in the King of the Hill run with driver Art Denisov behind the wheel. Now, we’ve strapped our test equipment to this example to find out how it fares in our stringent acceleration and braking tests…despite running on very well-used tyres.
The pinnacle Giulia employs a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine producing 375 kW and 600 N.m, the former and latter available from 6 500 and 2 500 r/min, respectively. An engine partly developed by engineers at Ferrari, it revs to a 7 000 r/min redline – the soundtrack provided by an Akropovič exhaust system. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which delivers power exclusively to the rear wheels.
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio acceleration
On the day, the Giulia Quadrifoglio recorded a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.70 seconds on our standardised test strip. (Alfa Romeo claims 3.9 seconds.) It is worth noting that, compared to our latest figure, the pre-facelifted model we tested in 2017 was 0.75 seconds quicker to the three-figure marker, with the team noting it had “no trouble putting its power down”.
The Italian performance sedan covered the quarter mile in 12.94 seconds, at a speed of 194.70 km/h, before reaching the 1 km marker 9.59 seconds later, at 249.93 km/h. In the overtaking acceleration stakes, the Alfa Romeo sprinted between the 80-100, 100-120 and 120-140 km/h increments in 0.90, 1.14 and 1.32 seconds, respectively.
