Bafana Bafana star Teboho Mokoena scores new Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai Automotive South Africa has partnered with Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena, handing him the keys to a new Santa Fe.
Following the national football team’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, Hyundai Automotive South Africa has partnered with midfielder Teboho Mokoena. Mokoena, who scored a late penalty against Czechia in Bafana Bafana’s second Group Stage game, was handed the keys to a box-fresh Santa Fe.
“Teboho has become a symbol of excellence in South African football,” said Tshiamo Tladi, Marketing Director of Hyundai Automotive South Africa. “His discipline, humility and ability to perform under pressure have made him one of the most respected football players, not just locally but globally. We are proud to welcome him to the Hyundai family and honoured that he chose the Hyundai Santa fe as his preferred model.”
Said Mokoena, “For me, the stunning Hyundai Santa Fe represents confidence and consistency. As an athlete who subscribes to excellence on and off the field, I prefer a vehicle that matches my lifestyle and mindset: modern, reliable and bold. The Santa gives me comfort, performance and a premium feel every time I get behind the wheel.”
As a reminder, the 29-year-old footballer isn’t the only sports person to have received an all-new Santa Fe this year. Indeed, Rugby World Cup-winning Springboks John Smit and Canan Moodie scored Santa Fes in January and February, respectively.

2027 Hyundai Santa Fe lineup to gain REEV model
Previously reserved for the Chinese domestic market, Hyundai has announced plans to introduce an REEV powertrain to the 2027 Santa Fe.
Hyundai Motor Company has announced its first REEV (range-extended electric vehicle) sold outside the Chinese market will come in the form of the 2027 Santa Fe. Indeed, the Santa Fe, which is currently available with the company’s 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain, will also gain an REEV option. The South Korean automaker says the Santa Fe REEV is capable of a combined driving range of around 1 000 km.
Announced at Hyundai’s 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, the Santa Fe REEV features two electric motors and a petrol engine – the latter serving as a generator for the vehicle’s battery. The battery, which is a newly-developed in-house cell, will reportedly produce around twice the output of the current nickel-based units and cut charging times by 40%.
Production of the REEV Santa Fe is likely set to take place at the company’s US-based plant in Alabama, as there are already prototypes of this model on the assembly line. While the carmaker has yet to confirm whether this model will be offered in right-hand drive, José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, did touch on a possibly related “global production footprint” REEV at the event.
