It probably makes sense for anyone to ask some elderly people if they followed something, and if it helped.

then useful for baseline numbers if nothing elseIt probably makes sense for anyone to ask some elderly people if they followed something, and if it helped.
IMO it really brushes over the various expenses/situations one encounters when one gets older, which really means that you need a lot more than what you spend in a typical month as a base.
It’s a good starting point, but at some point your kid’s going to need a car, or support for studying overseas. Your parents are going to run out of savings, or are going to need 24 hour care, one day you may need that too, along with paying doctors on-site visit rates, and expensive medication. You’re going to have other friends and family that need to be bailed out - just because they bailed out someone else.
I could easily have retired in my late 30’s, and sailed the world on a catamaran. I could have waved at my folks in their old age home instead of their comfortable sea side flat, or gone to visit my wife’s elderly family who would be crammed into a 1 bedroom flat in Ronderbosch East instead of their family homes. I could visit the sites of the charities I support that never would have existed or visit the graves of friends who wouldn’t have been here without a financial life line as a I sail by.then useful for baseline numbers if nothing else
but also the guy who wrote this is living on a solar catamaran he built, sailing from to beautiful locations living his best life, having used these principles to free himself, so your mileage may vary imo
