My attempt. I tried doing it using layer mask instead of quickmask.

must try this out at home with some photos. I think it blurs a bit too much, but maybe less blur would ruin the effect.

Thanks, but next time I think I will sharpen the pic first and then blur it. That way the focal point is sharper.
