1. You are connected but can't ping anything. Hold your hand around the OEM antenna for a few seconds. Often after that you get pings through again.

2. Can't connect? Turn your laptop 30-60 degrees and try again.

3. Vodafone dialer and Biometrics.co.za dialer won't dial (error 633 etc.). Click the "Safely remove hardware" icon on your toolbar and select "Novatel Wireless". Remove card and reinsert.
 
Card takes an eternity to aquire network even on good 3g signal.(thus nullifying biometrics dialer as well.) solution: scream and shout and swear while running around living space until the fkkin thing finds the network.
 
While travelling away from home, in farflung Free State dorpie, profile changed to "GPRS" only, data card insists that it can't connect. Rant and rave for a while, then in a flash of wine-induced inspiration use Windows "Start" "Connect to" "Vodacom", success, hurrah!
