Tomato and Linksys wrt54g

Don't know if anyone has used the tomato firmware for the wrt54g/gs. I have just installed it mainly to set up a WDS using 2 wrt54 that I had.

Why did I do it. Well I has 2 of these floating around and I just did it for the fun of it.

Want to see how far I can link these 2 together on the same network, without installing external antennas.

The Tomato firmware is great and so user friendly.

Another great firmware is openWRT or DD-WRT based on openWRT. These firmwares are packed with features.

The sysetem is working nicely so now I want to extend the range of the network to about 300m. I intend using some form of a directional antenna (18db - short cable 3-4m) on the router A which is connected to the modem and on router B, I will leave alone and just mount it high up, probably in the ceiling.

My questions are:
1. Which of the 2 antenna connections on router A do I connect the directional antenna too? Does it matter?
2. The settings on the Tomato firmware are on Auto for both the antennas. What changes do I make to router A, so that I can transmit and recieve on both antennas? Do I just leave it alone?
3. What should the maximum power setting be before I stand a chance of blowing the routers?

Please send me details of the configuration, as we found the solution to be unstable, and we had to lower the security of the wifi access.
