Is it just me or anyone else had a problem with tower 12 on Saturday night?

I noticed this weekend (from Friday morning) that my signal dropped to 2 light (usally 3 or 4 +/- 12 -16%) but didn't think much about it. I adjusted the patch slightly and was back at 3 lights.

Anyway, things were ok - the usual snails pace and at about 8pm Saturday, I lost my connection. I still had a signal of about 12% but got the "remote computer did not respond" (RCDNR). I reset the modem, nothing, tapped the patch a bit - signal now up to 17% and still "RCDNR". What I did notice is that my usual freq was now 2506000 and still nada.

Logged a call with the Sentech Fobdesk and they said Tower 12 is fine - it may be cops or someone causing interference. I couldn't argue but I was still peeved. "Call us in an hour and if someone else has a problem with Tower 12, we will get the guy from 2nd level on stadby to have a look" He didn't even ask which tower 12 initially before saying there's nothing wrong. Anyway, I decided to emty the Pringles can (which was now my savings can) and pulled out the patch, connected the cantenna and got Tower 12 @4% on 2,53 GHz and guess what, it connected. Lost the signal again after 5 min and after resets and all sorts of things, about 2 hours later I managed to connect again to the 2,53GHz signal, albeit only 7%.

Can someone explain this to me and also let me know if anyone else logged a problem on Tower 12 (Mintek) between 8pm - 10pm?

Funny enough, I get ADSL Speed test now of 70Kbs to 234Kbs - triple what I used to...is this another cantenna miracle?

Ja- I normally connect to Mintek or Radiokop (sorry... running PPPoE i am unable to tell you which one right now), but I have had no connection problems since Wednesday...

I'm almost to scared to comment, as when I normally do, tower 12 goes down to snail pace, but it's been very quick and stable since about Friday morning. I'm on the 2530000MHz sector.

Why would my sector change all of a sudden - I haven't moved anything?

Or maybe some birds flew in the way of the tower, and got stuck in your line of sight. Or maybe, the air was too pulluted to let the signal through. Or maybe you've been working on a reflected signal from a mountain somewhere, and now the mountain no longer exists and your signal is gone. Maybe a tree sprung up just in your way in those 5 minutes.

Thanks Donovan...the man who changed the world :-)

OK...some light on the subjct - and very interesting. Right in the beginning when I installed the USB software, I modified the Registry and config file to only show the 2.5 GHZ frequency. Once I changed this back, voila, the bloody interference from Tower 82 was back where previously I could basically move around without much interference from any other tower. THAT WAS AFTER THE UPGRADE OF THE FIRMWARE to 4.2.1.8 - so the firmware seems to definitely read from the registry - not totally ignoring the other freqs but searching longer for the ones that are listed in the registry.

That is my gut feeling - ProAsm and Rodent, any comments?

reading this brings up a question: can you tell the modem to connect to one specific tower only?

I have the reverse problem of what you have. I can connect to 82 and 12, but i WANT to connect to 82, 'cos I get WAY better performance on it than 12. 12 sucks BADLY - i had SO many slowdowns this weekend that it passed the point of "ridiculous"

i moved the modem to my study this weekend. It has been in a second bedroom 'till now, as that was the only place where I had signal before. I noticed this weekend that I can also get signal in the study with my cantenna.

but, the problem that I'm having now is that I can't get hold of tower 82 anymore - and 12 is going to drive me insane.

possible?

Which Tower 82 - Radiokop or Randburg Metro?

I guess, from what I said earlier, if the freq (zones) are different to your location (ie 2,51 GHz or 2.53GHz) then you can try it (remember to search for IPWireless in the registry and in the Program Files\IPWireless\Operator\Operator.ini file. I would assume that the two towers use different feqs. Make a backup of each before you make any changes.

As said, what I found was that it would try and search on the freq listed in the config file and registry. Remember to reset the modem and restart your PC after changing the files.

prolly Randburg Metro, but it could be a reflected signal from radiokop - i'm in randpark ridge, between the two really.

i connect to 2.53GHz on both, if I'm not mistaken... but I could be wrong.

i WANT to connect to Mintek(82). I've found that it's the most stable for me, and also MUCh faster than 12.

Yes...I believe RadioKop (82) is faster than Mintek(12)...but I am stuck with 12, unless I can get a decent signal tester from Sentech to tell me why I cannot connect to Radiokop, even though it's only 4km away from me.
