Transfer an ADSL account?

I'm planning a move from Gauteng to Sedgefield. I have an ADSL account with Telkom and I've heard that instead of cancelling my account and applying for a new one in Sedgefield, I can get it transferred. Anyone done this or know how it works?

apply for the line as far in advance as possible for the new address so you are in the cue. Your phone line installation/activation and dsl installation will then be free as it's a transfer. You need to mention its a transfer otherwise claiming back the money for the install will be like downloading the Lost DVD boxset using a 56k modem, slow and painful.

Remember even though you are an exising customer, you are still treated like everyone else with regards to waiting for that DSL port. it can also take up 2 months to cancel that phone line as well. which means you will be paying for 2 phonelines and dsl at the same time. Keep some spare cash around and also make sure your limit is good enough just in case.

Keep your reference numbers! without those you are screwed. The people on the other side of the line literally put your order through and forget you. Make sure they put down the order correctly. Once that order is put through getting the address changes it almost impossible.
