I connect via IS and i can't reach a website i host in the US, I have tried a traceroute and ping and it gets there but it won't open in a browser, i have connected to the site on another connection ...,.suggestion or suggestions who i should crap on would be appreciated !

Using Teklom DSL - Works fine. Your hit counter just went up 1.
Ask IS's DNS server for the IP Address.
You need to use the DNSQuery tool.

I suspect that that's where your problem lies.
I also tried http://72.9.224.170 - seems to redirect to the name again, so there's no workaround.

Stoke - please explain - i am not so network orientated ? I can reach the site as well - i just wish i could figure out why ?

Then you type in www.keo.co.za, your computer must get the ip address of www.keo.co.za from a Domain Name Server (DNS).
Now, IS run 4 verry large and busy DNS's, and your connection is configured to use one of these(Hopefully).
A DNS server's sole responsibility is to report the IP Address of a name to anybody who asks, and to ripple such data to other DNS's.

If you open a Command Prompt window, and type in IPConfig /All - you should get the details of your connection. Important in the details is the 2 entries for DNS servers (Primary and Secondary).

Now, if you don't have any entries there, then you'll have to ask IS for the DNS server settings, and put them in manually. If there are 2 IP Addresses for DNS servers listed, then the DNS servers don't know about ww.keo.co.za, and that's IS's problem.

Stoke - thanks - the site is hosted offshore in the states - does that make a difference at all - man i appreciate your help casue no one else has any idea !!!

When using the IS connection, can you see any other overseas sites ? www.microsoft.com, www.yahoo.com ? If you can, then it's not an international thing.

The only other thing that it could be is that you have only recently registered the site, and the registration has not rippled through to IS's DNS servers yet. This takes up to 48 hours, and in some cases, even longer.

Just for the record. I can't go to keo.co.za either. My browser just says "opening page", and then does nothing.

Stoke - thanks again - the site has been running for two years - i was on it this morning and it suddenly stopped working via our dsl line, i can ping the site and run a traceroute through to it - i just can't get it to open in a browser, now i have changed my connection to another one and it works fine - i am confused as hell !

I can reach other sites fine no problem ! And keo.co.za on the other connection ?

Tmosse - who do you connect through ?

So far Tiscali has some kind of issue.

I am sorry Stoke, but I do not think its a DNS problem, as he said he can do a traceroute just fine, which incline to the fact that the dns reported the correct ip from the hostname to him.

However, the problem might still be IS. It is one thing to do a traceroute to a site, and another to visit a website on the same site. It does happen that icmp packets follow one route, and port 80 connections a different route, as most major ISP's use transparent proxies for http/port80 connections.

Now lets say the route the proxy follow is different than that the normal icmp packets would follow, and the connection the proxy would follow to that site has a problem. Now we know why he can traceroute to the site, but not visit it via a browser...

Unfortunatly I dont think you can fix this, except report it to your isp, who must report to IS, who should then follow this up.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this ?

Cheers Aldo !I am the webmaster at keo.co.za and this is driving me Nuts it was working until about 9 this morning them it disappeared !

Okay - lets get down to specifics.
I can access the site on work's ADSL (Teklom) line fine.
I can also access the site on a IS hosted 256K diginet line fine.
I logged in at home, and home's ADSL (AYCE (SAIX)) can access it fine.

You're getting problems with Tiscali - but continuous problems, where methinks adlo's problem is just a glitch.

I am not using SIAX's Download Accelerator - Does Tiscali (Isn't tiscali MWEB and isnt MWEB using a form of acceleration ?) ?

That's weird. My torrents started downloading VERY slowly since 9:30 this morning. My connection died, and when I reconnected I couldn't download properly anymore. I wonder if it is related.
