USB Modem strangling system?

Hi

Not sure if this has been asked before. I have a mecer USB modem for my ADSL, and my feeling is that it is slowing my system down markedly when on line. I have noticed this especially in Media Player and in Flight Simulator. There is stuttering which is not present when I am not online. This is despite download speeds approaching 320kbps (eg streaming video) Bizarrely, I ordered a 192 DSL line, so am also a little worried about the 320kbps, but I won't complain while it lasts!

Am starting to think that I should have bought a router rather......

Has anyone had a similar experience?

USB ADSL modems are cheap crap.

Hi - yes it is the Mecer modem - the way the USB modem interacts with your operating system causes the problem. Its is especially so under Windows 2000. This will require a new driver, but Mecer is not forthcoming and they are not offering any solutions. Sorry!
