Use phones 3G in Linux

Hi
I've jsut installed ubuntu dapper drake, and being fairly new to linux I am struggling to connect to the net using my (Vodacom) Nokia N90's 3G/GPRS modem.
It's a very simple process in Windows- just enter a couple of settings and connect, but it seems a lot trickier in Linux.
Has anyone managed to do this in Linux? I need a fairly detailed run through if anyone has, as I am not familiar with Linux.
I would love to get this to work- I'm trying to do everything I can do in Windows on Linux to get myself familiar with it.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
