I have been told by Vodacom that the Vodacom supplied datacards, specifically the Option Quad Lite is NOT network branded. I want to verify this before travelling overseas and buying a pay as you go sim to use there. So, I installed a MTN pay as you go sim card in the Option card. The sim is supposed to be data enabled out of the box. It shows the MTN network as the first one but never registers with MTN. The response to network query is "0,2" not "0,1".

Anybody have experience with this.

Thanks

I am:

making a copy of the network connection in Network and Dialup connections.

Altering this copy to open a terminal window before dialing

Stopping Vodacom Mobile Connect. Ejecting the datacard and replacing the SIM with a MTN SIM.

Opening the copy made above.

Setting the PIN, APN with direct modem commands. Sorry but I don't have the info in front of me to give you the exact command strings. I can post this later if you need.

Querying the network registration from the modem and recieving "0,2" instead of "0,1"

I did try this first with the Vodacom SIM and it did produce a usable connection to the Vodacom network. With the Vodacom SIM, I received "0,1" to the above request and then closed the DOS window and the connection completed.

I used my novatel u630 (vodafone branded )with my mtn simcard and VMC software and could not connect...=sim locked but after I did a firmware upgrade to the u630 it seems the simlock was erased and then when I tried mtn card it worked with VMC

Mams, where did you obtail the firmware, from Vodacom, Novotel or a third party? The option card I have requires that I use firmware supplied by Vodacom as the Option people will not supply it. When you go to the Option site for updates, they require your serial number, check it against their database of manufactured cards finding that it was supplied OEM to Vodacom and refuse to upgrade you.

Resolved this. The MTN sim was not properly GPRS enabled. In the end, I had to call service and have them enable it. Then the Voda supplied Option card did work.
