Hi;

I need to configure an ADSL router (Planet) for my ADSL in South Africa in Verulam and would like to know the VCI and VPI and the encapsulation protocol (PPPoA or PPPoE and what kind)?

Welcome

PPPoE
VPI 8 VCI 35
Encapsulation LLC

BTW - this isnt really the area for this sort of topic. Take your time and have a look around the site. You might want to post questions such as this in the "ADSL hardware, software, technical help" section.

I'm sure one of the kind mods would be willing to relocate this thread there?

Thanks dear. But really I am not from south africa so not so familiar.
Anyway, my client told me that the ADSL in south africa is PPPoA and he take real (public) IP address when he connect to the ISP but ofcourse dynamic. So are you sure it is PPPoE?

It is PPPoE (E= Ethernet). From the exchange onwards it could be PPPoA (A=ATM), but we have to get to the exchange first. ATM is Telkom's worries.

Thanks a lot.

Regarding to the IP addresses: does the telkom give private IP for the end user (10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x) or public (real IP)? And regarding to telkom ADSL modem, do u have any idea about its model to look for its configuration method?

Your kindly help is high appreciated.
