It's from 2002, but talks about famous SA people leaving SA because of Telkom..!

Not only IT, everything!

Imagine where our economy would be if we had free or extremely low local calls coupled with decent bandwidth and low pricing.

Online shopping will take off in a big way.
Communications with the world will improve - and business as a result
And it goes on and on and on and on.

Unfortunately, so does Telkom...

It is an ovice and knowen to all thing that telkom restricts the development of telcomunications in south africa , and there for in out newage that effects everything . SAD BUT TRUE *sigh* :(
 
It is my opinion,if nothing is done about Telkom NOW

In 10 years time ,SA businessmen will all need a pair of binocular to see how far ahead the competitors are in the world.

That is how far we will be behind the rest of the world.
 
Once again, Telkom IS NOT THE PROBLEM! They are merely doing what every other business organization does; working to maximize their profit in whatever way they can. The problem only exists because the government has acted to impose artifical constraints on the marked: no-one is allowed to compete with Telkom. Remove those artifical constraints, and the situation will resolve itself.

Eskom also enjoy monopoly,yet they provide exellent service at world's
best price

the problem is Telkom's unefficient management and flawed corporate culture,which probably only a small number of people wthin Telkom are resposnible.
but 44 million people has to endure the consequences of strategic erros made by a few people in Telkom,this situation is not acceptable

I have to agree with mithrandi, nothing forces change faster than competition. In a healthy competitive environment you are forced to take customer satisfaction seriously. No customers, no business.

years behind Telkom,it is not an equal competition from start

eg. Vodacom vs MTN

SNO 's competition WILL benefit all South African eventually ,YES

But IT will many years for them to catch up Telkom's adventage


Can our economy wait that long ?

Oh please; the reason why we will not derive much benefit from the SNO has nothing to do with this, but instead is because the regulatory environment is set to change very little. Instead of one monopoly, we'll be stick with two monopolies sharing the pie for many years to come.

The answer here is perfectly clear to anyone that understands free market economics, capitalism, and game theory; deregulation is the most expedient, and beneficial way of resolving this situation, and will be a lasting solution. I'm not going to waste any more time trying to explain this to people that clearly do not have a grasp of the concepts involved.

(Incidentally, you seem to give Transtel far too little credit)

I think more people should just take a hint and leave. Go to the US, go to the UK, go to IRAQ for all I care. There's much more to SA than a NET connection.

As far as Telkom being a monopoly goes - grow up. So you are also not happy with the broadband facilities Sentech offers? That figures.

And let me guess what the total contribution is that you have made to SA - playing online games and downloading pirate software or porn.

And BTW, you can still just cancel your ADSL contract, so stop bitching and take some action.
