Virgin DNS and SMTP address needed please!

Terencek,

Thanks very much for your reply. I followed your instuction and bhad to change the APN. I then had to enter both DNS because they were blank. I then clicked finish and it went back to the dashboard. It tries to connect but it just keeps saying 'aquiring' at the bottom with the lights on the data card flashing (green light flashing twice, quickly).

Maybe i have to do something with the modem setting or initialization string. How do i edit initilization string?

Thanks again,

Nick

Virgin Wont Work ! Why ???

Howzit,

Guys & Dolls ,

I am using a Huawei E620 Fastlink HSDPA Data card.

I have tried a MTN , Vodacom and Cell-c sim in there and they all work well.

However when I tried a Virginmobile Sim it says Connection failed.

I have used the *99***# and Vdata as the setting yet for the other 3 sims I used no settings at all.

Concerned that Virgin does not have a dial up support even during the day.

Help !

Just an interesting note; I spoke to Virgin Mobile this morning and they informed me that they DO NOT PROVIDE an SMTP Service for connecting to your Email account and sending Email via the VM n/w - you have to use your own SMTP Server.

As usual the Helpdesk staff often have little knowledge when it comes to data. Thousands of us out here are using the VM (i.e. CellC) SMTP server for our outgoing mail, which is as it should be:

mail.cmobile.co.za

For the record, for anyone swapping SIMs regularly (because VM still leaves something to be desired in the reliability stakes), the appropriate outgoing mail SMTP servers for Voda and MTN respectively are:

smtp.vodacom.co.za
mail.mtn.co.za

Sum1 PM me on how to get my 64k sim swooped for a 128k thanx..

We do not use dns just leave them blank and the smtp is mail.cmobile.co.za

Can someone help me by providing the Virgin DNS and SMTP addresses please? Everything works fine using a VM SIM in an old GPRS data card (which needs manual configuration) except for these details, and the friendly Helpdesk person I spoke to was not too sure what I was talking about....

Thanx guys!

Hi Tereneck,

Please note that Virgin Unfortunately does not have a DNS address as yet. :(
But, the SMTP address is mail.cmobile.co.za
