Yes, look, i need to swap sims through out the day, and along with the sim i need to tick the virgin settings/or voda settings, which ever is appropriate to sim.

Right now I've using Voda sim/Virgin wap settings on phone/ and Voda settings on PC - and i'm connected.. What gives?

Ok, so now i've done the opposite...

Virgin sim/voda wap settings on fone/virgin settings on pc...

And this also works.... what gives?

How is it possible that i can connect both ways?

Your settings on your PC works independently from your Phone Settings
IOW
Your Phone uses the settings on your phone to connect.
Your PC connects directly to the internet using the settings you gave it,skipping/ignoring the settings you entered on your phone. Thats why you just need to change your PC settings to match the correct sim.
AFAIK

BTW,anyone know of an easy way of changing the PC's APN? (using SamsungX600)

voda and virgins apn and ip address are both different from each other.

So how is it that the virgin sim can 'sign in' through vodas settings and vice-verca for the voda sim..?

Do this work on Your PC or on your phone?

Yes, but through pc....... lol, this is funny.

Once your phone is connected to your PC, it will be seen as a modem and be uiltilsed as such by the PC. With VC settings on PC and VC sim in phone it will connect and the same with VM settings on PC and VM sim in phone. Try using VC settings on PC with VM sim in phone or vice versa and you'll soon have connection problems. In other words the PC connection uses the network operators settings on your PC and the appropriate sim in the phone to connect not the phones wap settings.

The 2 setups that have worked -

1)voda sim/virgin wap settings/voda settings on PC(EASY GPRS)
2)virgin sim/voda wap settings/virgin settings on PC(EASY GPRS)

Ok... but expain how the wap settings come into play?

Because you are given specific settings to use, and to vary on the apn from vdata to internet, and again to differ ip address... how does all this work?

For the 3rd time....your phone settings is NOT used by your PC. Read my posts again...
What do you not understand?

WAP settings on your phone come into play when USING YOUR PHONE....opening page on mobile browser.
WAP settings on PC come in to play...well when you're using the internet via your datacable/bluetooth/morsecode connection...That clearer?

Ok, so why do i need ip address when i use fone to browse. But when i use phone as modem via PC, i dont use ip address?

You get assigned an ip address as soon as you get connected independent of the device you use. You can't use the internet without an ip address.

Ok, it took awhile to sink in..... but, thanks guys.. i learnt something today.
