Vodacom Roaming Calls + SMS but NO DATA

Hi.

Not tech savvy family member is traveling overseas in a week.

She is going for 3 months so it is uneconomical to use the travel data bundles.

She will buy a data sim card overseas to put in her MiFi router but she needs her calls and SMS to work on her south african number.

Is their a way to activate calls and SMS but NOT activate data roaming at all.

She is not tech savvy (explaining how she will use the MiFi router for data took half a day)
Simply turning off the data roaming option on her phone will not suffice (Because it might get turned on somehow)

Can Vodacom restrict data usage so that only Calls and SMS work?



Wifi calling is not an option, Whatsapp calling is not an option. I really just need her phone to work as it does here .... but without data.

She needs to be able to make and receive calls and SMS on her own number, when I said she is not tech savvy... i meant she is tech illiterate... .

Can activating roaming for calls and texts be done without data?

I am asking HOW to block roaming data.

Simply turning the option off on the phone is not good enough as she may somehow turn it on.

I want to know if the operator, Vodacom, can block roaming data entirely.

Just wondering why is turning off mobile data ( not just roaming data) on the phone not a workable solution? The user, as described, doesn't seem to be someone who will go to phone settings and accidentally enable mobile data when it's deactivated.

Or just before the person leaves south Africa if they are going to use the same phone while abroad change the APN.

Ended up just activating SMS roaming. It was the safer of the options.

This is a nice idea. You would have to know where to change this.
