Wanting to move into development - which area?

It truly is a masterpiece:

Character building. This is good, connecting the subject with the reader.

Right in the feels :'( We have drama ladies and gentlemen!

Our intrepid hero has a plan, motivation and we can look forward to a marvelous adventure!

Like all good stories the hero steers towards disaster. Will fate save him or will this be the start of the end?

Luckily for us he is well aware of the dangers around him and asks for advice knowing something better is out there.
You're right @Priapus did the Hero's Journey in real life!

For mobile, look at Kotlin for Android. Also consider React Native for cross platform mobile dev (be warned - not for high powered UI apps like gaming - more for form based stuff) For web, consider the framework and coding methodology over language... Django and Python is a good combo too.
Read the room bro. The guy with the least amount experience in this thread is a lead mobile developer with close to a decade's worth of experience.

haha, this is awesome

But seriously though, it's a classic resurrection - reminds me of the speed that tech moves. Coding since '98

It's been some journey and I am now about to move on to a third company.. in 8yrs.

You guys are old. Someone even said Blackberry would stick around

I once went to a BB workshop to learn how to write apps on them; CTO at bidorbuy at the time thought it would be a good thing. I forgot all about it right after the workshop.

**** its been so long and you were even in this thread back then.

Thanks guys.

I dont know Java or C# as well as I know Objective C. However I am willing to learn. I know I would have to start at the bottom, thats okay.

I am 24 and I dont want to waste too much time putting this off. I was thinking of taking up development (Learning as much as I can) and then maybe in a year or two start looking for a Junior position ?

****. Why can't I be 24 again with the knowledge I have now?

It's always awesome to see how users grow and mature in life and experience. A small decision that was made 10 years ago, grew into a career. Well done for OP.

I wish more of us could think like that. The key is just to start somewhere.
Thank you.
Starting is always the hardest part.

Thinking about it more. I’m not exactly what sparked the idea. I just knew I hated my then career and needed an out.

I recall getting one of those white MacBooks and I had an iPhone. I think it might have been that combination that lead to to think more about programming

Well. In 2008 I was in a 2x2 "maids" room, Core 2 Duo XP computer and a sleeping bag in Potch somewhere. Hell I hated that place. (My parents lived in a garage in Krugersdorp somewhere) . And I borrowed someones iBurst so I can make money online (with no hope to be able to study and uncertain future). Got R500 a month online.

Fast forward 13 years later. My 2x2 is now a house with fibre (which I need to leave soon, so thinking of buying) , still no studies lol, but doing consulting to architects in New Zealand and partnered with a friens starting a business.

But yeah, it all started with that Core 2 Duo and unreliable iBurst, and some awesome people along the journey.

Maybe not in your case, but Poverty Mindset was my biggest challenge life, and I still struggle with it, slowly getting out of it (the mindset). But once you just grab something and starting doing it and developing it, the rest will come and build over time.

Of course life is unpredictable, and we all have our lows, but then you get up and try again.
