As well as digital signals, the DVI connector also includes pins providing the same analog signals found on a VGA connector, allowing a VGA monitor to be connected with a simple plug adapter. This feature was included in order to make DVI universal, as it allows either type of monitor (analog or digital) to be operated from the same connector.

The DVI connector on a device is therefore given one of three names, depending on which signals it implements:

* DVI-D (digital only)
* DVI-A (analog only)
* DVI-I (digital & analog)

Ok so whats the use of having one? What do you do with it? My lcd screen gives me the option of this!

Shank if you can connect the monitor via DVI then you should do so, it gives a crisper picture than vga. I could definately notice the difference between vga and DVI on the Samsung 244t i had.

Agreed - I use a DVD-D cable and the picture is definitely better and sharper.

DVI cable - Digital
VGA cable - Analogue

Analogue top resolution on my display is 1280 X 1024, with a digital signal you can up the resolution much more.

*Some guys are running their 30'' Dell displays @ 2560 X 1920!! Can't do that with an analogue signal.

Ok sounds like a plan! I presume you have to go and buy 1 right? Some throw me a bone here. Hope they not to expensive! The monitor crashed my pocket pretty hard alone.

Yup, check hifi corp or your local PC shop. If you splashed out on the monitor, you NEED the proper cable.
