What's up with upload rates?

Hey guys.

If this has already been mentioned I apologise. I'd then appreciate it if anyone would direct me to the correct post. I get horrendous uploading speeds on iBurst as in << 1kB/sec. I've experienced this since I got the package but I was hoping it would sort itself out by now. Any suggestions? I'm using a PCMIA device to connect and get 120kB/sec downloads from the Kempton Park BS.

you're on kempton? damn why do you new people have to crowd up my baby? pssh

anyways theres no way of telling the problem untill you can tell us was the server local or not, if not where abouts in the world was it, what ports and because of shaping, what content type

I can tell you this, I had to do some stuff at www.moviesaskew.com this morning and uploaded at 48KBps and thats based in new jersey, USA
 
I've tried sending files via dcc (500byes/sec). I've tried uploading to my univeristy's webCT server based in Pretoria. I've tried uploading to a local server in Midrand. I don't know what ports and the content type is basically scripts and programs along with some pictures and videos.
 
yeah ok, dcc is a bit weird last night i couldnt get stuff and now i can get it fine, its been on and off since i've had my unit, not sure about technical reasons, as for ports, dcc has no specific port range unless you use a dcc server which you probably dont, so i'd suggest you just keep trying

The firewalls can also mess arround with it quite badly as well
That is is all port related
 
i took my firewall off, i like to live dangerously :p

but if his firewall was on and blocking the dcc port, it wouldn't slow it down it would stop it completly and i find most people have firewalls to have rules against incoming traffic and not out going, cuz people are lazy
