Where are all the trialists?

I still the read mybroadband.co.za web site like three times a week, for the passed two years, Just because I don’t post, does not make me uninterested the in boardband market of SA. I am not big into the posting on the forum but you oaks are moaning that no one is posting about wi-max. So I did and now you upset about and amount of post I did, come on!!!!!!

And from what i gather i was not first on the list for my area, other people before me in my area could not get signal at there house, due to trees and other stuff in the way!

I agree that this is a bit arb. Don't let the bitterness of a few hold you back from posting some more details on the Wimax trials for us! :)

Hi all!

I didn't get my Wi-max through the forum, but I decided to share my experiences anyway...

The only issue I had for the installation was that I had to phone Mweb for the IP address of the box they put on my wall, and details on how to connect, the technician left without leaving instructions or anything!

Also, although I'm supposed to be able to connect to the box with a wireless connection, it doesn't show up on my wireless network, and even if it would (which it doesn't), I wouldn't know the network key.

My speed is equivalent to around a 384kbps connection...I'm a bit disappointed, I thought it would be faster. Maybe someone from Mweb would like to up the speed for me? ;)

I generally have good signal, although sometimes, I download at full speed for 5 minutes, then it drops to 0 for 10 secs, and then back to full speed, and so on.

Surprisingly, I have a better latency when a play WoW with my Wimax conncetion (300-500ms) than my adsl connection (800-1200ms).

Also, I'm busy enjoying the no caps part of it too....

Hope people found this helpful, and if they want more info, just ask!

Dovi

ok I won't,

I found it running very slow yesterday, dont know if it was the weather as it was raining hard yesterday, other than that it is really good!!

dovij : how do you find P2P downloads using programs like bittorent, i think they may have block that port on our accounts.

Usually it is very slow, but today I was managing 30K/s! Unusual, though.

Btw, my station is Sandton, and apparently they've been getting interference there.

Of the 25 Forum members we invited to participate in our Trial, 13 have been connected successfully, 5 unfortunately failed the signal test (i.e. they fell outside our coverage areas) and the remaining 7 are awaiting the resolution of the frequency spectrum interference we’ve encountered in the Sandton/Randburg area.
That would be me :( apparently the Victory Park tower that was meant to be setup a block from me has not gone live.

What I wanna know is how does a guy with 8 forum posts on MyADSL qualify as one of the 25 forumites selected to trial?

Or have you created a new username for this?
Or are you not part of the 25 MyADSL trialists?

I'm also not part of the MyADSl trialist.

Yeah sorry I've been so quiet.... all I can say is that its GREAT !!! I've been connected since beginning of July and havent had any problems with it. Online gaming is a bit of a problem, but from what I've read almost all wireless services have that problem. In the beginning I couldnt play at all, so I thought it might be blocked ports or something, so I mailed them and they replied saying more bandwidth has been allocated, so its a bit better now. I can play say anytime from 9 in the evening with pings of about 150-250 playing battlefield 2142 - anytime before 9 the pings jump to almost 1000 and makes it impossible to play.

Downtime....never !!! Ive had a couple of sms's saying that the service will be down while I was at work, but have alwayz had an sms about 30mins later saying the service have been restored. So I must say I AM REALLY IMPRESSED with the whole service.

Regarding the installation.... also very good - they where done in an hour and I got a 7/10 signal.

Whether wise...also no problem - we have had some pretty nasty whether here in cape town the past few weeks and never disconnect or anything. Torrents are dead slow...but my rapidshare account works perfect and get speeds of around 40-50Kb/s - its uncapped, so you can imagine the amount you can do in a week. :)

All in all - ITS AWESOME... i know the wimax technology have even more to offer, but im sure we will see even higher speeds later on.

Thanks MWEB !!!

Ya no problems with my Mweb Wi-max this week, its been running 100%

Thanks Mweb

Hi guys

My first signal test a few months ago failed due to trees, etc. Last week they came to do another, because they upgraded their network. Well I was in luck, the signal test passed. Since then I have been experiencing about 60 kb/s max with GrabIt and also about the max same speed with uTorrent. Torrents are mostly slow, but I think that is because of selfish seeders. Even the torrents with hundreds of seeders are slow.

The only problem I have is that sometimes it just disconnects (I think due to wind and stuff), at night it doesn't do it though.

For some reason my connection is slower. It's performing like a 384kbps line now, when before it performed at 512kbps speeds.

MWEB TRIALIST (would-be)

The Mweb guys came to my office last week and couldn't get a signal even though there was clear LOS to the sandton tower, about 4kms away. I am in Corlett drive, right opp Wanderers Stadium
Don't know what next, had hoped to hear by now. Naturally disappointed, as my normally excellent Vodacom 3G/HSDPA is real rubbish and slow last fortnight
Hey MWeb team, what gives? i'm surely in a prime position. They tell me there's problems in Melrose Arch, too

the only way to do a real test for torrents is to use a private tracker, where the seeding ratio is much higher.
