Where is maestro_za?

So R50 cheaper for a laser makes us exhorbitant?

Modz are not our main form of income and we're still cheap in regards to the Pretoria area where we don't have flea-market competition either.

no no dont get angry now ....

im just saying what i pay in cpt :)

He just quoted me R750.00 for the laser and R900.00 total for replacement over the phone. I can get the laser much cheaper via Ebay or another local company!

Who said I'm angry?

Also you forget to add our T's & C's for modz: "ALL PRICES BELOW INCLUDE A 6 MONTH SERVICE WARRANTY ... A DISCOUNTED PRICE (WITH NO WARRANTY) IS AVAILABLE FOR CERTAIN MODIFICATIONS - CONTACT US FOR FURTHER DETAILS ..."

So it still works out competitively priced. It's a business being run here at the end of the day!

You sound like you want to do the job yourself which will always be cheaper.

We don't buy our stock from eBay in any case and that final price is similar to what we charge. Other stores (don't want to mention names) charge R1500 for a PS3 laser replacement so shows their profit margin :D

Put it this way, I know my way around electronics, not my core business tho. This is for one of my relatives, he must decide how much he wants to pay and what risk he wants to take. I am the defacto family repair SHOP. I make them wait long as to stem the tide some. ;)

Haha ...

Well our PS3 lasers are $70 (R615+-) cost price each as an example with a warranty, so it's not as if this is a money making racket!

eBay for the most part is no warranty or 30 days (not ideal for the industry standard of a 3 month warranty for repairs) for service parts ...

If we didn't use service providers and did everything on our own then there wouldn't be businesses out there (being sarcastic of course) :)

What's your price on old (first HDMI version) XBOX RROD fix? Tried doing the thermal paste fix, but it only worked for 15 minutes. Shelved the console around a year and a half ago after that and I've been tempted to buy a new one ever since. If your pricing is decent I might just go with a fix...

Xbox laser replacement cost me $6 - but took a while to arrive.
I just got the part (and bought a backup) from China and googled for a vid that shows how to do it..
Easy as that

At a recent special Xboxes was going cheap,

Get a 250GB Xbox360 with 3 game download tokens at BT Games Centurion only from 2-4 November.

I would rather buy new then. If I had spare cash I would have got one just for the sake of it.

Those are refurbs (rebuilt) lasers.

Not saying they don't work but returns are bad for my business, be it inside or outside the warranty given for the repair.

Besides, there is nothing wrong going the D.I.Y route but there is more to repairs than just replacing components.

For example, we're the first to introduce reballing of video game consoles in this country. Had to invest in allot of equipment over the years to do this kind of work properly - It's a painstaking process which gave me many sleepless nights :D

Reflow is R450 and a Reball is R850 for Fat Xbox's.

Yes, Fat Xbox's were prone to RROD but Slim's aren't immune either. All electronics have a lifespan at the end of the day.

Examples of what competition asks (won't mention business names).

[JHB]

Big name retail stores: RROD reflow: R900 - R995 (no mention of a warranty)
Gumtree / Junkmail: RROD reflow: R350 - R550 (most do x-clamp fix / 12v fan mod which does far more damage than good)
1 store in JHB does reballing (have a rapport with the owner): RROD reball = R750 (Fat) / R850 (Slim) {Might be running a special now though}

PS3 YLOD repair pricing also varies.

At the end of the day my business for the most part has positive reviews and until I move on in life will continue to deliver the best service humanly possible.
