Which laptop for Linux 2026 in Cape Town?

This Lenovo seems to be a good option. I had E series before, both cheap and nasty. The older T series units are excellent and fully compatible. I've never even heard of a Legion before.

I never knew the T580 but the T460 was the goat in my Thinkpad days.

The old Thinkpads are very durable. I have an L520 which is almost 15 years old. Replaced the battery (obviously) and then upped the RAM (when this was still cheap), replaced the HDD with an SSD (once again when cheap), moved the mechanical drive to where the optical drive was for some extra storage space and re-pasted the CPU in case. It is running Ubuntu 24.04 Gnome without any problems.

Both were great. The t460 survived a ceiling falling on it and the t580 me throwing it across my dining room when I tripped over my dog, come to think of it same dog who scratched my car up last night...

At least the battery will last more than 4 hours.
