I would like to use the voip function of Battlefield 2142 but I need a microphone. I'm not sure if I should get a standing microphone as there might be interference from the speakers or if I should get a gaming headset.

Any suggestions on microphones and/or headsets to use?

depends how much you want to spend on a gaming headset.

Labtec headsets really aren't too bad and are dirt cheap, the logitechs are quite a bit more expensive not really all that great imo (mine broke).
If you have R600+ to spend go for Sennheiser

I bought a pair of Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headsets on a whim at Incredible Corruptions. When my 4th pair in under a month went faulty the Manager there refused to exchange them any further for me because he said I was doing something wrong. (Complete tosser and reinforced my attitude to never step foot in there again)

So, I took them to a local independent computer store said he had also had many faults/problems with same make and model. (He sent them for repair to Logitech repair agent, and they replaced them. After a month they too stopped working... )

Just my experience with them anyway...

I don't really want to pay R500 for a set of headphones, just looking for the cheapest set that has decent quality sound. Basically I don't want a pair that cuts out if I move the cable.

I'll pay R300 max for a decent pair.

Where can you buy Sennheiser's in South Africa?

I have a set of Sennheisers, not sure which ones, got them for a birthday, but they're awesome.

Or you could just buy an el cheepo R30 digitech mic and R100-R150 Creative Earphones.

Thats R220 saving and it will work just fine 2.
