Which RAM for Laptop?

Thanks very much for the help so far.
Laptop is:
Lenovo Ideapad 130-15IKB

This is a screenshot of the Memory Specs ran with CPU-Z
From this I can see it is DDR4 but I'm not sure of the shape/type (don't know what to call it) of the RAM. I know that PC & Laptop RAM differ. Cannot buy the wrong one since I am going to buy online.
I saw this on a spec sheet I Googled:
Memory Slots One memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM slot, dual-channel capable.
From this I understand that 4GB is soldered to the motherboard. Will we be able to add another 8GB? (SO-DIMM?)

Thanks again.

Punch the details in here https://www.crucial.com/store/advisor and it will tell you how many free ram slots you have and what your options are.

You need a DDR4 2666 SODIMM.

You only have 1 slot, so can put a 4G, an 8G or a 16G in there, for a total of 8G, 12G or 20G
Faster speeds will also work - eg 3200.

Takealot has plenty of 8G for sale in various brands. I'd stick to a known one eg Micron or similar.

The shape is.... DDR4 SO-DIMM

Get at most a 8GB, but a 4GB 2400MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM is what you really want, since then the RAM will at least run in Dual Channel mode.

I do not see CPU mentioned and did not google the particular model to confirm. Last month I helped a family member who has one of those cellphone deal laptops. Does not have soldered RAM, it supports 2x DDR3 to a max of 8GB, or a single DDR4 4GB for that particular CPU (Celeron) - the higher CPU configurations supported 8GB DDR4.

Incorrect Max highlighted.

16G ddr4 sodimm exists, and is compatible, so max would be 20G as I noted above.

Laptops can be a bit fussy with ram upgrades. Safest thing that should always work is just getting one bigger stick of ram. Though if the current one can't be removed, that will be a problem.

You are saying the manufacturers officials spec sheet is incorrect? You saying you have installed a 16GB SO-DIMM on a Lenovo Ideapad 130-15IKB before?

Although I would always take the manufacterers specs at face value when in doubt, they can sometimes be wrong or just on the conservative side.

Since the memory controller is in the CPU itself, there's a good chance the laptop will support a larger capacity module than specified on the spec sheet. A BIOS/Firmware update would increase that likelihood.

I've come across many instances over the years where the manufacturers spec sheet was either incorrect, or simply out of date.

If you can, buy a 16, 8, and 4gb stick, and return whichever is not needed.
