Who is Afrinic?????

Can anyone fill me in who or what is AFRINIC. I get several port scans from them, including ports that have nothing to offer except using as a back door. I phoned the number on WHOIS database, with no answer. It seems like it is based in Mauritius????
The scans vary from minor to severe!

Post the IP address(es) that the port scans are coming from, perhaps forumites can find more info, but you should also know that there is nothing unusual about port scans - they are now a fact of life whenever you are connected to the net, and that firewalls are essential thesedays...
