Who runs as Administrator

Who runs as an Administrator under OsX these days for normal day to day use - and more importantly WHY? :eek:

Not the root user you enable from netinfo manager. Rather as a user account with "Allow user to administer this computer" selected.
 
If it's anything like XP it should give you more control over the MAC shouldn't it? :) ;)

Due to OsX's unix heritage it's much simpler not running as an administrator as compared to XP. In fact there is little reason to do so.

The number one security recommendation I hear for OsX is not to run day-to-day as an admin.

I am (I think - will confirm a bit later). Mostly because I am used to WinXP, and to do anything on WinXP you have to be an Administrator
 
I don't think there is much point running as admin if osx is anything like linux. In linux if you don't run as root and don't have the rights to do something, all you have to do is put in the root password and you can run that app as root. So there is no point in running as admin or root for everyday purpose.

Wish Windows could do something similar, will really help for security. I refuse to run as a normal user and always run on an admin account on windows. I hate having to log out and back in again to do something like installing some program or driver etc. Linux has no such problems.
 
The OSX machine I occasionally use has me/other users with admin rights ... but mainly because I have been configuring it a lot of late

Do not need it I have an XP boot cracker. Get in and do what I want. Just for the good tho!:D
 
bwana : If you are talking about the default account created when you install OSX, then yep, I use an admin account. I still get prompted to enter my root password to do anything serious. Why would you not want to run with this setting?

Apparently for security issues. A malformed installer can escalate its privileges without you giving it permission to do so.

In windows, right click app > Run as... > Run as following user ;)
