why the problem with the 24month contract?

I understand what you're saying; I'm just pointing out that a shorter contract period would necessitate paying R4000 up-front for the device, and would also likely have an increased monthly fee. Under those conditions, getting Sentech for a month and then cancelling it would still be extremely costly; you've not only paid for a month of service, but you've also paid for a R4000 device that you aren't using anymore.

Not quite right:

If my scheme could work, I would have a R4000 Sentech Modem, and a R2000 ADSL modem which I would use to give me the lowest monthly Internet connectivity bill depending on the specials available :-)

Anyway, by the time Sentech is up and running, their equipment will have halved in price :-)

Err, this is the INTERNET, not your local green grocer. That just sounds silly IMHO.
