Hi, does anybody know if there's any Wi-fi hotspots in Stellenbosch?

Thanks

I believe that Java (the coffee shop) provides Wi-Fi access. Not too sure of other spots. I would also be interested to know if there are any other.

I don't think there are any free wi-fi spots.

Snowball provides wi-fi internet, and I believe they cover most of Stellenbosch.

The university has several hotspots, but that's only for to connect to their network.

hotspot in Stellenbosch

Hi,

One of our affiliates has been setting up quite a few in Stellenbosch, though I'm not sure if they're in 'public' places.

Check out http://map.skyrove.com. I know they'll be setting up more in coming months.

Best,
Henk

"Free" Wi-fi "imminent"! Woohoo!

As more and more bandwidth is flowing into South Africa there's a shift towards accessibility to services rather than purely connectivity. It's just a matter of time before "free" connectivity become ubiquitous. "Free" because it will always be a vehicle to monetise services.

My main hope that the bodies in charge of the critical infrastructure does their homework and acquaint themselves thoroughly with the implications of any potential partnerships.

To take a trivial example: A municipality may be tempted to give a big name unrestricted access to it's infrastructure - after all, why not? It's for a "free" network, right?

But is it a municipality's place to facilitate the negation of it's residents' investments in infrastructure: Eg. internet cafe's, guest-house hotspots?

Many small companies have perfected a Wi-fi broadband access model over the past 8 years - and have found that the cost of putting up infrastructure and providing bandwidth consists of less than 10% of the expenditure of running successful Wi-Fi access infrastructure.
