I go on Twitter to find out what people have to say about things. The blue check was meant to make that easier. I have a feeling it's going to get messy if the blue check suddenly means "someone paid $100/year to be an influencer", or worse, if you have 100 accounts for an individual and no way of knowing if a tweet is authentic.

I didn't vote in the poll because this question is not relevant to me. It should be directed at Twitter users who currently have blue tick marks already.
I think that anyone being allowed to pay $8 for it, cheapens the blue tick. I personally feel that celebrities, sports stars, icons and businesses should be the only ones to have those ticks, or be entitled to pay for it. I use Twitter regularly to contact businesses and government departments. How do I know it's the real City Power, Joburg Water, Metro Police or a famous grilled chicken company? It's the blue tick!

Companies and government departments tend to ignore you until you tag them and take the issue on Twitter. Those of you not on the platform may think it's all nonsense gossip, but I promise you that businesses respond much quicker when you expose them on Twitter! Employees get fired, contracts get cancelled and online articles get written based on tweets. So I'm afraid it's kind of a big deal.

From my experience with CoJ it makes zero difference - they don't care.

I can agree you shouldn't get the tick just for paying some money, because then it is meaningless, but I don't see why only celebrities et al should be allowed to have a blue tick if it means this user has been verified to be who they say they are.

What i find so funny about this, is that we all know if the idea and the $8 per month, came from some rando hipster at Twitter everybody would be saying what an awesome idea it is. Elon comes up with it and the world hates it lol.

Maybe. Musk is an ass, so people don't like him. But I think people would have been resistant regardless of who introduced the fee.

He never has been good at understanding people. He should be leveraging off his PR team..

Are there PR people crazy enough to work for him. Must be a really frustrating job.
